The Farmers Branch Historical Park has provided more than 20 years of quality educational programming.

By living history, students become active participants in learning about the past. Tours focus on learning

through interactive activities and discussion.

Children come to the orchard and learn about, bees, pollination, honey extraction, apples,

composting, earthworms, colored cotton, butterflies, insects, spiders, and herbs. The

principles of agriculture, biology, history and botany are intertwined in the program.

Master gardening and Junior Master gardening are also discussed. We have an

observation bee hive for children to view the bees work

October 1, Thursday-- HOME SCHOOL DAY at the Fort Worth Zoo

All home-schooled children, and their families are invited to a fun-filled educational day at the zoo.

Keeper chats and activity stations tailor-made for home-schoolers will be available throughout the

 park. Enjoy asking keepers your best animal questions around the Zoo's world-class exhibits, and

consider purchasing additional tickets to the Zoo's Wild Wonders Live Animal Program and/or

lunch! Wild Wonders Live Animal Program: The Wild Wonders Live Animal Program will be

presented inside the Zoo at Picnic Outpost for easy access during the event. You must pre-

purchase your tickets by Wednesday September 23, 2009. Lunches: Pre-ordered lunch pick-up will

Recommended for grades 3-6. An introduction to the brass family of instruments, featuring a repertoire of

exhilarating music.  Guided by Rei Hotoda and DSO principal brass players, this program explores the

differences between the various brass instruments, their inner workings, and the variety of moods and colors

they can create. Meet downstairs in the lower lobby off the parking garage no later than 9:30am.  We have

This moving and unique musical, based on the classic works of Rudyard Kipling, is an

extraordinary adventure that follows Mowgli, a boy raised by wolves, and his friends Baloo the

bear, Bagheera the panther and Kaa the python. Together they laugh, sing and learn about the

Jungle Law while thwarting the evil Shere Khan, a man-eating tiger who has vowed to destroy

Mowgli.

3-hour tour of the facility where they produce the F35 flight line.  This is the pre-eminent fighter jet

that they are producing in partnership with 8 other countries.  Our group will get to see 3 to 4

F35’s in various stages of construction.  They will also have aerospace engineers ready to do

hands-on activities with the kids (engineering curriculum based activities).  You must be 10 yrs. Or

older to tour (no exceptions) and be a U.S. citizen.  There is no photography allowed on site. 

Closed toed shoes are required.  Maximum of 30 people in the group (if we have more that are

 interested, we will schedule a second tour).

Tour of the brand new permanent exhibit of butterflies, plus a display of insects and 7½ acres of organic

Firing up the furnace and showing us how it’s done! Glassblowing is an ancient form of

art...one of the most ancient known to mankind. Believe it or not, their main glass blower

 is a home schooling dad.

Christmas is in trouble! When the greedy toy company DeBiggy Toys International gets a judge to

outlaw Santa Claus, a rag-tag band of singing, dancing children are the only ones who can save

Christmas. The adventure zips from the North Pole to Acapulco and back again in this clever, fun-

loving musical by Joel Ferrell. A true North Texas classic!

featuring movies that were filmed on location in Israel, Italy and America. This state-of

-the-art high definition virtual reality theater features a 48 channel sound system that

virtually puts you in the picture. Stroll the beautiful Angel Gardens with their lush

plantings and sparkling fountains.

January 25, Monday-- Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant in Glen Rose

The Visitor's Information Center is located about one mile inside the Peak's front gate off

Hwy 56 north of Glen Rose.  Visitors Center offers several interactive displays and a 10-

minute video explaining how nuclear power is made. The tour includes a view of a control

 room simulator in which reactor operators are trained, as well as a driving tour for an up-

close view of Comanche Peak Power Plant. At the Information Center, exhibits and

displays tell the story of the generation of electricity by the first nuclear power plant in

 Texas.

Recommended for grades PK – 2 This fun and engaging program for younger concert-goers

explores how orchestra instruments fall into distinct families based on how they produce

sound.  Performances trace how instruments are used in styles which are familiar to

students and how these same instruments are used in the symphony orchestra.  Meet

 downstairs in the lower lobby off the parking garage no later than 9:30am.  We have to be

Join us for a visit to our very own Donna Cobb’s family-owned ranch which is home to 17

head of buffalo.  We plan to visit in the spring when the young buffalo are born.  This is a

great opportunity to study more about buffalo ahead of time so that the kids can ask some

 good questions.

Week of March 22-- Rehoboth Ranch & Mary of Puddin’ Hill–Greenville, TX

10 am-12 pm (TBD--T, W, or Th?)  The cost is $7 per student or a maximum of $25

 per family. No charge for adults. We encourage parents to come with

their children. We do not charge for babes in arms or toddlers that parents

will be taking care of during the activities. (Minimum of 20 paying guests)

Sounds like a GREAT tour!!

The tour consists of walking around the farm to see the Grade A Raw Goat

Milk Dairy and hand milking goats for everyone who wants to try, tasting
Grade A Raw Goat Milk, walking the pastures to see the beef cattle, pastured
chickens, pastured pigs, and laying hens, gathering eggs from the
"eggmobile" portable hen houses.  Along the way, I explain what the children
are seeing in the way of organic and sustainable farming vs. conventional
factory farming.  We then return to the house area for a goat cheese making
demonstration and goat cheese tasting.  The group is welcome to stay for

lunch.  I use portable sound amplification equipment as we walk so everyone can hear. The total

walk is approximately one mile. There is a moderately strenuous hill to come back up.  Half the

walk is down, half is back up again.  Anyone who needs to can drive their own vehicle down in

 the pasture behind the walkers. The fastest route from Coppell is up 121 to McKinney, continue

north on Hwy. 5 to Hwy. 380, then east on Hwy. 380, turn north on Hwy. 903, turn east on Farm

 Road 2194, turn left on C.R. 1081.  Bring picnic lunch to enjoy together OR eat at Mary of Puddin’

Hill in their deli.

Afterwards, we can proceed to Mary of Puddin’ Hill: Come take the free special-guided

tours and see our Candy Kitchen, take the tour, smell the chocolates that are made right

 before your eyes! While you are here enjoy a good meal in a quaint country atmosphere. Our

Puddin Hill Deli offers a wide variety of delicious sandwiches, soups and salads. You will not find

 a better choice for your lunch.  Call ahead and place your order, we will have your lunch ready for

 you when you arrive.  After you finish your meal be sure to spend some time looking around. We

have a lot of gorgeous and unique range of items along with many candy items to choose from.

Recommended for grades 3-6 This fascinating program explores how composers

throughout history, using the same instruments and then the same notes, have developed

 music of incredibly different styles.  Focus will be given to the elements of articulation,

expression, rhythm and harmony, and how students can apply these elements to their

own music making. Meet downstairs in the lower lobby off the parking garage no later

April 16, Friday—DCT’s “The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe” Rosewood Theater
